Glutamic acid or glutamine is a non-essential amino acid. This means that it can be produced by the body itself. It is mainly synthesized in the liver. However, glutamine is formed in the kidneys, brain and lungs. The body can only produce glutamine if other amino acids are involved in the synthesis. In the case of glutamine, the essential amino acids isoleucine and valine are particularly important for this.
